Jonah Aya Amedu, FNSE, began his engineering career after earning a B.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Ibadan in 1988.
He joined Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in 1989 as a Petroleum Engineer and later returned to the University of Ibadan to obtain an M.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering (with Distinction) in 1993.
He has also completed several professional training programs in reservoir dynamics, leadership, project management, investment and divestment, negotiation, contract management, and corporate social responsibility.
A COREN-registered engineer and Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), he is a member of NSE, NIPetE, and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) globally, including the Lagos and Calgary Sections. He has authored and presented multiple technical papers at local and international fora, covering topics such as reservoir performance optimization, real-time fluid sampling, and fractured carbonate reservoir analysis.
With an extensive career spanning Africa, Europe, North America, and the Middle East, Jonah has led the successful delivery of numerous complex projects. During his tenure at Seplat Energy, he played a pivotal role in increasing oil production from 18,000 bopd in 2011 to 78,000 bopd in 2013. He also contributed significantly to strategic asset acquisitions, leading to the acquisition of three additional OMLs between 2015 and 2020.
He retired in 2022 as General Manager, Subsurface, and Advisor to the Technical Director. He currently serves as CEO/Principal Consultant of Jonire Services Inc. and CEO/MD of Jonire Petroleum Services (Nigeria) Ltd. He is widely recognized for his integrity, professionalism, and commitment to engineering excellence.
